The Polish premium manufacturer of vodka made from Dankowskie Diamond rye recently expanded its range with two so-called Single Estate Ryes. Belvedere is thus bringing the concept of terroir to the vodka industry. Terroir is the term for the sum of all factors that influence the properties of the cultivated raw material. In the case of Smogóry Forest, the raw material comes from a few rye fields around the village of Smogóry in the far west of Poland, which are surrounded by dense forests and cultivated during the long summers by the independent farmer Andrzej Babiak. While all other production steps of the vodka are standardized (fourfold distillation, no filtration), the strong and spicy taste proves that the nature of the rye does have an effect on the end result.
